From Formal to Family

The firm was brought in to create functionality in the first floor living spaces, which at the time were underutilized. As the client works from home a couple days a week giving her a designated office was a priority. To incorporate a piece of the client’s history, we repurposed the desk, painting it a bright coral against a classic Nina Campbell wallcovering. Next, our attention turned to the living room. For this young family comfort and flexibility were essential to the overall feeling of the space. Adding swivel chairs allowed the conversation to change directions while providing eclectic pattern and texture added a notion of informality to what once was the formal living room. In the dining room the Phillip Jeffries wallcovering highlights the juxtaposition of formality but allows playfulness to emerge. The overall design is a family friendly space that can be enjoyed from the oldest to the youngest.
